My latest fun in Chinatown is a new batch of colorful herbs, including the yummy Caulis Spatholobi(Ji Xue Teng), for nourishing the blood. When I say yummy, I suppose I am referring to the tonifying action, because they don't taste yummy, they have a calming and restorative action in the body.
As usual, as the guinea pig, I experienced the calming feeling within 12 hours of downing the herbal tea. Drink in the evening, wake up the next day feeling different. I could write a book about this, but there are already many more detailed books than I would ever write already on the market, and this is a huge topic that most people don't want or need. What I like to do in my coaching practice is expose people to the notion of looking after your health through the experienced people who know about such things.
Here is a link to a really informative and colorful site on Chinese herbs - my favorite things... Just putting this link on the blog. http://www.drshen.com/chineseherbs.htm
Many people find that ordering herbs over the internet is practical, if they know what to order. A little scary, if you don't, except for Yin Chao, the Chinese version of Tylenol for colds. That's why a trip to Chinatown is educational, because there you are likely to find a traditional doctor who consults, in the traditional way, for very low cost, and then makes you a herbal formula, as I have written about many times.
When you go into a health store, you will also encounter trained sales people who will help you with herbal formulas for this and that. Either way, I believe everyone benefits by learning more about what to do in a health or herb store.
Part of empowerment, of taking charge of our health, when we can. November is a good month to take charge of your immune system - by boosting your vitality before the winter comes. Herbs help do just that - the tonifying action boosts all of our vitality in good ways.
Go exploring in a health store or a Chinese herb store !
